Samsung Galaxy S Samsung Captivate Update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread OTAs - Wireless and Mobile News

It's Gingerbread week,  it's when Granny makes Gingerbread people and houses also when Verizon Wireless will begin updating its first Samsung Galaxy S smartphone the Samsung Fascinate to Android 2.3 Gingerbread  "i500.EH03."

Verizon also reportedly is rolling out an update to the Samsung Droid Charge.  The Verizon support page shows that the update for the Samsung Fascinate is "Coming Soon."
Along with Gingerbread features improvements include contact search by last name, the addition of  added security and new calendar options.

It will take you approximately 8 to 10 minutes to download the software update, depending on network conditions. Wi-Fi connection are typically faster for updates.  Be sure that your Samsung Fascinate is at least 40% charged and that you back up your data.  You will not be able to make phone calls during the update process.

There are reports in  that some lucky Samsung Fascinate owners have gotten updates. Before you get all excited, the first round of updates are usually the slowest.  On the first day, there are very few updates sent out over-the-air.  Then over time Verizon ramps up the update with major push on the weekend.
A Verizon Forum member noted "I've upgraded 2 Fascinates to EH03 so far today via OTA.  Both working very nice, so far."

The list of features in the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update are impressive, with the addition of download manager, active app management, shortcuts, one-touch copy/paste, widgets, icons, app groups, updated calendar options, camera geotagging, improved email synching, and camera auto-focus improvements.  Read Gingerbread tips.
