Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket Delivers a White Christmas as the newest Galaxy

The old Bing Crosby standby had him “dreaming of a white Christmas”, and smartphone manufacturer Samsung is prepared to deliver on that dream by launching a white Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket on December 4. The handset will be identical in physical design and technical specifications, the only difference being its color. The Samsung Galaxy S II is now available in some version in Europe, Asia and North America, and globally those different devices have combined for over 30 million units sold.

The Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket improves on the spec sheet of the Samsung Galaxy S II that runs on AT&T’s 4G non-LTE network. The Skyrocket has a larger screen and faster, more powerful processor, and is exclusive to the AT&T 4G LTE wireless network. The AT&T 4G LTE wireless system was recently tested by independent wireless systems reviewer RootMetrics, and registered true LTE speeds.

The newest AT&T Galaxy is on sale now and customers can buy the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket starting at $179 for new customers.

The new White Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket launches today and is priced at $149.99.

The new white Skyrocket arrives out-of-the-box with Android’s Gingerbread operating system, and popular social applications Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and Picasa are preloaded. The handset delivers the second largest display in smartphone technology, at 4.50 inches, and that capacitive multitouch screen provides 480 x 800 pixel resolution and 16 million color rendering. Samsung’s Super AMOLED Plus display technology joins a light sensor, proximity sensor and scratch resistant layer of Corning Gorilla Glass in the display.

The 1850 mAh battery delivers 7.0 hours of talk time and 11 days standby from a single charge. Samsung uses one of their own chips, a 1.5 GHz dual core Scorpion processor, and an Adreno 220 graphics processor joins it in the hardware package. 1.0 GB of RAM memory is on board, as well as 16 GB of onboard storage. A microSD slot is present for storage expansion.

A front facing 2.0 megapixel chat cam is also capable of placing video calls, and joins a rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder that comes equipped with an LED flash and video light. That rear camcorder records video in 1920 x 1080 pixels (1080p HD) at 30 frames per second, and features smile detection, autofocus and panorama shot taking capability. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless connectivity options are both present.
